GS Single Diaphragm Clamp Coupling

The GS coupling places one stainless-steel diaphragm between two aluminum clamping hubs. This compact arrangement is intended for short motor-to-screw connections where shaft response is more important than vibration cushioning.

Product Details

Torque passes from one hub through the metal diaphragm and into the opposite hub. There is no rubber spider between the shafts. This produces a firm response during starting, stopping and reversing, while avoiding the wear associated with an elastomer insert.

 

The single diaphragm flexes when a small angular or axial installation difference is present. Because there is only one flexing section, the coupling is shorter than a double-diaphragm design but has less ability to accommodate parallel shaft offset.

 

Ten sizes are listed, beginning with GS-19×20 and ending with GS-82×68. Available bore combinations depend on the selected outside diameter. The smallest listed bore is 3 mm, while the larger models provide bore options up to 42 mm.

 

Product Description

The two bore diameters should be selected separately when the motor shaft and driven shaft are different sizes. Both hubs use clamping screws, so installation does not require a keyway unless the connected equipment specifically calls for one.

 

The diaphragm must remain in its normal position while the clamp screws are tightened. Pulling the hubs together to compensate for excessive shaft spacing places a permanent axial load on the diaphragm before the machine starts.

 

This GS series is suitable for servo motors, stepper motors and ball screw inputs that require direct response during reversal. It is not intended to act as a soft vibration isolator. Where shock absorption is the main requirement, an elastomer jaw coupling may be more appropriate.

 

Rated torque rises from 1 N·m on the GS-19×20 to 100 N·m on the GS-82×68. Selection should follow the working torque, bore pair and operating speed rather than outside diameter alone. The model-specific clamp-screw torque shown in the dimension chart should also be observed.

FAQ

How is a single-diaphragm coupling different from a double-diaphragm model?

A single-diaphragm coupling has one flexible metal section and a shorter overall construction. A double-diaphragm design provides two flexing sections and is generally more suitable when parallel offset must be accommodated.

Can this coupling reduce motor vibration?

It is designed for torsionally firm transmission rather than soft vibration isolation. An elastomer coupling should be considered when cushioning impact or vibration is the main objective.

Can the two hubs have different bore diameters?

Yes. Select the motor-side and driven-side bores from the combinations available for the chosen GS model.

Should the shafts be pushed fully into the coupling?

The shaft insertion depth and axial position must leave the diaphragm free from permanent stretching or compression. Confirm the assembly position before tightening both hubs.

Can a special bore combination be produced?

We build to customer drawings under OEM/ODM, and accept orders as small as a single piece for standard sizes.
