GFC Polyurethane Spider Jaw Coupling video

GFC Polyurethane Spider Jaw Coupling

The GFC coupling places a polyurethane spider between two aluminum hubs. Motor torque passes from one hub into the spider and then into the opposite hub, adding a replaceable cushioning element to the shaft connection.

Description

Product Details

Three parts form the working assembly: an input hub, an output hub and the central spider. The hubs are made from high-strength aluminum alloy with an anodized surface. The catalog specifies a polyurethane elastomer between them.

The spider keeps the metal jaws separated during normal operation. It also softens part of the shock produced during starting, stopping and reversing. No oil or grease is required around this element.

Clamp-style hubs secure the shafts at both ends. Different bore diameters can be combined within the range offered for each frame, allowing one coupling to connect shafts of unequal size.

Product Description

GFC models cover body diameters from 14 mm to 95 mm. The smallest three models carry a rated torque of 5 N·m, while the GFC95×126 reaches 250 N·m. Larger frames accept wider shaft selections but also require more installation space.

The spider is a working component and should be inspected if the drive develops additional play, impact noise or an unusual change in response. Although the opposing jaws may make contact after severe elastomer damage, the coupling should not continue operating in that condition. Metal-to-metal contact removes the intended cushioning and can transfer shock into the shafts and bearings.

The published displacement limits are small: 0.1 mm eccentricity, 1 degree angular movement and ±0.2 mm axial movement. These limits allow the coupling to tolerate minor installation error; they do not replace proper shaft alignment.

FAQ

Can the polyurethane spider be replaced?

Yes. The spider is a separate part positioned between the two hubs. Its size must match the selected GFC coupling.

What happens if the spider is badly worn?

Clearance, impact noise and unstable response may increase. The coupling should be stopped and inspected rather than left to operate through metal jaw contact.

Can the two hubs have different bore sizes?

Yes. Different input and output bores may be selected when both dimensions are available for the chosen model.

Does the coupling need lubrication?

No lubrication is required for the polyurethane spider.

Can the bore or overall configuration be customized?

We build to customer drawings under OEM/ODM, and accept orders as small as a single piece for standard sizes.
