SCAJ Split-Housing Clearance Control Block
The SCAJ combines a round-shaft ball bushing with a visibly split aluminum housing. Its adjustment screw applies controlled compression around the bearing, allowing minor running clearance to be corrected after assembly.
Description
What the Adjustment Screw Changes
The slot across the housing allows its bearing seat to contract slightly when the adjustment screw is tightened. This reduces movement between the bearing and its matching shaft. The screw is intended for small clearance corrections; it is not a carriage brake or shaft-locking device.
Adjustment cannot compensate for an incorrect shaft diameter, a bent shaft or two shafts installed out of parallel. Those conditions must be corrected before the bearing fit is changed.
Setting the Block on the Machine
Begin with the adjustment screw released and the shaft surface cleaned and lubricated. Move the block through the entire working distance to check whether resistance changes at any point.
Tighten the screw in small increments, checking forward and reverse movement after every change. Stop when unwanted play has been reduced but the carriage still travels freely. The final check should be made after the housing mounting screws have been tightened because an uneven mounting surface can also affect movement.
Standard models correspond to shaft diameters from 8 mm to 50 mm. Selection must follow the complete SCAJ designation together with the housing dimensions and mounting-hole positions.

FAQ
Is the adjustment screw used to stop the carriage?
No. It changes the bearing fit and must not be used as a locking brake.
Can tightening remove unlimited clearance?
No. The adjustment range is limited. Excessive compression increases friction and may damage the bearing or shaft.
When should the clearance be adjusted?
Make the final adjustment after the block and shaft are installed in their working positions.
Can this block correct poor alignment between two shafts?
No. Shaft alignment must be corrected mechanically before adjusting the bearing clearance.
Can SCAJ run on a continuously supported round rail?
No. Its bore is closed. Supported SBR or TBR rails require a compatible open bearing block.
Are standard and drawing-based orders available?
