SFY High Lead Ball Screw
SFY ball screw assemblies combine large leads with compact flanged nuts, allowing an axis to cover more distance with each motor revolution. Available combinations range from 16 mm diameter with 16 mm lead to 50 mm diameter with 100 mm lead.
Description
Product Details
The SFY range is divided into two lead groups. Models such as SFY1616 and SFY5050 use a lead equal to the screw diameter, while SFY01632 through SFY050100 provide twice as much lead as screw diameter. The second group is intended for applications where travel speed matters more than mechanical advantage.
Each model uses a flanged ball nut for secure mounting to a carriage or machine structure. Because the nut dimensions, load ratings and rigidity change between models, selection should be made from the complete model number rather than screw diameter alone.
Product Description
An SFY ball screw is suitable for handling equipment, positioning axes and automated machinery that must cover a relatively long distance per motor revolution. The larger-lead models can reduce the rotational speed required for a given linear travel rate, although motor torque, acceleration, screw support spacing and critical speed still need to be checked as part of the complete axis design.
Ball screws can be driven backward by an external axial load. A vertical installation should therefore include a motor brake, counterbalance or another suitable holding device. Temperature changes can also influence positioning over long strokes; the original page gives an approximate steel expansion value of 12 μm per metre for every 1°C change. Cooling or control compensation may be needed where thermal displacement is important.
The available information does not establish a specific accuracy grade or manufacturing method. Required accuracy, preload, end machining and overall screw length should be stated when requesting a quotation.

FAQ
Is this page for the SFY or SFE series?
It is for the SFY series. The shared specification drawing also shows SFE models, but the models listed on this page all carry the SFY prefix.
Can an SFY nut replace an SFE nut?
Not automatically. SFY and SFE use different model designations and nut configurations. Mounting dimensions and screw specifications must be compared before replacement.
Which models provide the most travel per revolution?
The SFY01632 through SFY050100 group provides a lead twice the screw diameter. These models travel farther per revolution but have lower listed load capacity and rigidity than the corresponding equal-lead group.
Can the screw ends be machined to a customer drawing?
Yes. End machining, overall length and mounting requirements should be included with the drawing.
We build to customer drawings under OEM/ODM, and accept orders as small as a single piece for standard sizes.
