Series Arrangement

SI and SA belong to one dimensional family. SI receives a threaded rod inside its body, whereas SA has an external threaded shank. PHS and POS form the second pair: PHS is internally threaded and POS is externally threaded.

 

Thread form is only the first selection step. SI and PHS may both appear to be female rod ends, but their housing proportions and dimensional standards are not automatically the same. The same restriction applies when comparing SA with POS.

 

The product photographs show the spherical inner ring exposed inside the circular head. A pin or bolt passes through this bore, and the inner ring can change angle relative to the threaded housing as the connected parts move.

 

Linkage Adjustment

A right-hand rod end and a left-hand rod end can be used at opposite ends of a correctly threaded centre rod. Rotating the rod then changes the linkage length without removing either joint from its mounting pin.

 

This arrangement only works when the two thread directions are deliberately paired. Replacing one end with the wrong direction prevents normal adjustment and may cause the threads to loosen when the rod is turned.

 

After the required centre-to-centre length has been set, suitable locknuts should secure the threaded connections. Enough thread engagement must remain inside a female housing or along a male shank; the joint should not be lengthened by leaving only a few threads engaged.

Can SI be replaced directly with PHS?

Not from the thread size alone. Compare the bore, housing width, centre height, thread length and complete dimensional drawing.

Which models have internal threads?

SI and PHS use female threaded housings.

Which models have external threaded shanks?

SA and POS are the male-threaded alternatives.

Why would a linkage use one left-hand thread?

When paired with a right-hand thread, it allows the centre rod to adjust the linkage length by rotation.

Can the spherical eye operate as a continuously rotating bearing?

It is intended mainly for angular adjustment and oscillating linkage movement, not continuous high-speed rotation.

Can a rod end be produced from a linkage drawing?

We build to customer drawings under OEM/ODM, and accept orders as small as a single piece for standard sizes.
