GM Helical Beam Motor Coupling
The GM coupling is machined from one piece of aluminum alloy, with a spiral cut through its center section. This cut allows the body to flex slightly when two connected shafts are not perfectly aligned.

Product Details
GM couplings use an integrated beam structure rather than separate diaphragms or an elastomer insert. Torque passes directly through the aluminum body, while the spiral section provides limited radial, angular and axial flexibility.
Both ends are secured by positioning screws. This fastening method keeps the coupling compact and makes it suitable for encoders, small stepper motors, miniature drive shafts and other installations where space is limited.
The catalog specifies an allowable eccentricity of 0.15 mm, an angular deflection of 3 degrees and an axial deviation of ±0.2 mm throughout the series. These figures are maximum allowances. Reducing the actual installation error will lower repeated stress in the spiral section.

Fourteen GM sizes are listed, ranging from the 12 mm diameter GM12×18.5 to the 50 mm diameter GM50×50. Rated torque rises from 0.3 N·m to 20 N·m as the coupling size increases.
Small models can run at higher rotational speeds. GM12×18.5 is rated up to 30,000 rpm, while the largest GM50×50 model is listed at 8,000 rpm. The selected coupling must satisfy the required bore combination as well as torque and speed requirements.
This series is intended for moderate alignment compensation. It should not be used as a substitute for correcting visibly displaced shafts. Frequent reversing, rapid acceleration and sudden stopping can also produce peak torque above the normal running value and should be considered during model selection.

All models have an allowable eccentricity of 0.15 mm, angular deflection of 3 degrees and axial deviation of ±0.2 mm. Bore availability varies by model and should be selected according to the two connected shaft diameters.




FAQ
Does this coupling contain a rubber insert?
No. The flexible section is formed directly in the aluminum body by spiral machining.
How is it fixed to the shafts?
The GM series shown on this page uses positioning screws at both ends.
Can the two ends have different bore diameters?
Yes. Different bore combinations can be selected within the available range of each model.
Is it limited to stepper motors?
No. It may also be used with encoders, micro motors and other low-to-moderate torque shaft connections when the selected model meets the operating requirements.
Can custom bore combinations be ordered?
We build to customer drawings under OEM/ODM, and accept orders as small as a single piece for standard sizes.
