Aluminum Hub Elastomer Drive Coupling
This coupling places a resilient element between two oxidized aluminum hubs. Motor torque passes through the interlocking jaws, while the center element separates the metal halves and softens sudden changes in the drive.
Description
Product Details
Each shaft is held by its own aluminum hub. Raised jaws on the two hubs face one another, with an elastomer fitted into the spaces between them. The metal jaws do not normally contact each other directly.
Unlike a one-piece beam coupling, this construction uses three separate working parts. The hub bore must match the motor or ball screw end, while the center element must correspond to the jaw size of both hubs.
The oxidized surface provides the aluminum parts with a finished outer layer. It does not remove the need to protect the coupling from incorrect alignment, excessive torque or contact with surrounding machine parts.
Product Description
The coupling should be selected from the two shaft diameters first. A motor shaft and ball screw end may require different bores, so both sides must be stated individually rather than ordering from one bore measurement.
During assembly, the shafts should enter their respective hubs without bottoming against each other. The required axial position must leave enough space for the elastomer to work between the two jaw sets.
The flexible insert can reduce the transmission of impact and vibration, but it is not a substitute for aligning the motor with the driven shaft. Large offset forces the elastomer to deform continuously and can produce heat, wear and irregular rotation.
Periodic inspection should focus on cracks, permanent compression or looseness in the center element, together with movement between each hub and its shaft. The surrounding guard must also provide clearance throughout rotation.

FAQ
Can the two coupling bores be different?
Yes. Specify the motor shaft diameter and driven-shaft diameter separately when requesting the coupling.
Do the aluminum jaws run directly against each other?
The elastomer occupies the working spaces between the two jaw hubs and separates their normal torque-contact surfaces.
Can this coupling correct a large shaft offset?
No. It accepts only limited displacement. The motor and driven shaft still require proper alignment.
What should be inspected during maintenance?
Check the elastomer for cracking, compression and looseness, and confirm that neither hub has moved on its shaft.
Can the bore dimensions follow an existing drive drawing?
We build to customer drawings under OEM/ODM, and accept orders as small as a single piece for standard sizes.
