SA Threaded Linkage Pivot Eye
The SA rod end screws into the end of a linkage through its external threaded shank. A bolt or pin passes through the spherical inner ring, allowing the connected parts to change angle without forcing the rod to bend.
Description
Product Details
This model uses a carbon-steel eye and an integral male thread. The joint inside the eye is a spherical plain bearing rather than a rolling ball bearing. Movement takes place between curved sliding surfaces when the linkage turns or changes angle.
The external thread provides a practical way to set the finished length of a control rod. The rod end can be screwed farther into or out of the mating component during assembly and then secured with a separate locknut. Thread size, pitch and direction must be checked before machining the matching part.
The mounting bolt should clamp against the sides of the inner ring. Spacers that press against the outer housing can restrict articulation and place force on the wrong part of the joint.
Product Description
An SA rod end is commonly fitted to control rods, cylinder linkages and mechanical adjustment arms. Its purpose is to transmit force along the linkage while accepting a limited difference in angle between the two connected mounting points.
The joint must be given enough surrounding clearance to reach its working angle. If the housing touches a bracket before the inner ring reaches the required position, the contact can bend the threaded shank or overload the edge of the bearing.
Rod-end size should be selected from the bore, external thread and actual load direction. The SA name alone does not confirm whether the thread is right-hand or left-hand, whether a liner is installed, or whether periodic lubrication is required.

FAQ
Does every SA rod end use a right-hand thread?
No. Thread direction must be confirmed from the complete model or the customer's drawing before the mating part is produced.
Is the thread used only for mounting?
It also allows the effective linkage length to be adjusted. The final position should be secured so that normal movement cannot rotate the rod end farther into or out of the linkage.
Can the housing contact the mounting bracket during movement?
It should not. The bracket needs enough clearance for the required articulation angle without striking the eye or threaded shank.
Is a locknut supplied with the rod end?
Treat the locknut, mounting bolt and spacers as separate parts unless they are specifically included in the quotation.
Can the thread or housing be made from a customer drawing?
We build to customer drawings under OEM/ODM, and accept orders as small as a single piece for standard sizes.
