Two circulation modes for guide rails:

Internal circulation type: The balls remain in constant contact with the lead screw throughout circulation, achieved via a reversing mechanism within the nut. This design offers compact dimensions and high rigidity, making it suitable for applications requiring medium to small lead lengths and high precision.

External circulation type: The balls disengage from the lead screw surface during return travel, circulating via an external guide tube or spiral groove. While simpler to manufacture, this configuration exhibits larger radial dimensions and is best suited for heavy-duty applications.

 

Working Principle

When the lead screw rotates, the balls roll between the raceways of the lead screw and nut, converting rotational motion into linear motion of the nut (or vice versa). Utilising rolling friction rather than sliding friction enables transmission efficiency exceeding 90%, significantly surpassing the 30-50% efficiency typical of conventional trapezoidal lead screws.
