Product Details

The polished outside diameter is a working bearing surface, not a decorative finish. Scratches, clamp marks, dents or raised burrs can be felt each time the bearing passes over the damaged area.

 

Induction hardening treats the shaft surface before final grinding and polishing. The page does not state the steel grade, hardness depth or finished diameter tolerance, so these values must be confirmed for the ordered shaft rather than assumed from its appearance.

 

The product may be supplied with plain ends or machined from a drawing. Threads, reduced journals, flats, keyways and retaining grooves must be positioned outside the bearing's travel zone unless the equipment drawing states otherwise.

 

Product Description

During cutting or end machining, serrated jaws should not contact the polished running area directly. Soft jaws, protective sleeves or a designated clamping section help prevent local marks that would later pass beneath the bearing.

 

A freshly cut end requires deburring and a suitable entry chamfer. Without this preparation, the sharp edge can catch the bearing seal or displace the first row of balls during assembly.

 

Mark the usable bearing path on the drawing before adding holes or flats. Machining through an already hardened surface requires suitable tooling and may interrupt the bearing track. Providing the finished drawing before production avoids unnecessary secondary work.

 

After unpacking, remove storage residue with a clean lint-free cloth and apply the lubricant specified for the bearing system. The shaft should not be installed dry simply because its surface appears smooth.

FAQ

Can the polished shaft be held directly in a steel vise?

Direct contact should be avoided. Hard jaws may leave marks on the surface used by the linear bearing.

Why must the cut end be chamfered?

The chamfer gives the bearing seal and internal ball rows a smooth entry onto the shaft.

Can a flat or hole be added inside the bearing travel area?

Normally it should remain outside the working path. Any interruption inside the travel zone must be approved as part of the machine design.

Is the hardness the same for every available shaft?

Are the bearing blocks and supports included?
