The screw, nut, and recirculating balls work the same way any ball screw does - rotation in, straight-line travel out - but the double-nut setup changes what happens at the nut itself. With two nuts preloaded against each other rather than one, the small internal gap between screw and nut (which would otherwise show up as backlash when the direction of travel reverses) gets squeezed out. That's the main reason this design carries more load and holds tighter precision than a comparable single-nut screw, at the cost of a longer, more complex nut assembly.

 

Rolling contact between screw and nut keeps friction and energy loss down compared to a plain lead screw, and that same rolling-friction advantage is what gives it a longer service life under sustained use.
