The processing requirements of the ball screw are very strict and there are many processes. So today we will talk about how to prevent the ball screw from deforming after heat treatment. Let's take a look!
It was found in production that the workpiece was severely deformed after carburizing and quenching, and it was difficult to correct it. Large deformation also appeared in the processing after heat treatment, which caused a large number of product repairs and many workpieces to be scrapped.
In order to not only ensure the performance of the ball screw mechanism, but also facilitate the user to perform the necessary secondary processing, generally only the effective thread part of the screw is quenched and heat treated, and the rest of the screw can still be machined.
The ball screw is often subjected to bending, torsion, fatigue, and impact when working, and at the same time bears friction at the sliding and rotating parts. The main forms of damage to the ball screw are wear and fatigue.
In order to adapt to different uses in various occasions, manufacturers generally provide a wide range of specifications for users to choose from. The specifications of the ball screw mechanism are finally represented by a set of numbers, which can be directly selected when ordering. Different manufacturers the numbering rules are different. But they are roughly similar. Just read the manufacturer's sample information carefully.
Due to the large frictional resistance of the trapezoidal screw and low transmission efficiency, in high-precision machine tools, especially in CNC machine tools, rolling screw transmission is often used instead of trapezoidal screw transmission.
Because the surface of the rolled screw is stronger, and the surface finish is better, in addition, the rolling process can be used to process long bars, which can then be cut into any length. The accuracy of the rolled ball screw can be better than 0.003 inches per foot. For higher precision, you should consider using a grinding process. However, the cost of the grinding process is much higher, probably 10 times.
